Berlin Hauptbahnhof in Germany

The Berlin Hauptbahnhof, translated as the Berlin Central Station, is the main station of the city of Berlin, Germany. The railway station is located on the site where the historical Lehrter Bahnhof used to be.

The opening took place on May 26th 2006 with a ceremony. Two days after the ceremony, the station began to fully operate. Before the opening, the station was just a stop on the Berling S-Bahn suburban railway. It is one of the four Category 1 stations in Berlin, and one of the 20 in Germany.

The initial station was opened in 1871 on the line linking Berlin with Lehrte. This line became later the most important west-east line in Germany. The construction of the new station began in 1995, with the Tiergarten tunnels. The work was finished in 2005, when the last tunnel was completed.
