Centraal Railway Station in Arnhem, the Netherlands

The Arnhem Railway Station is located in the city of Arnhem, the Netherlands, on the Rhijnspoorweg line, from Amsterdam to Emmerich. It was opened on May 14th 1845, at the same time with the opening of the Rhijnspoorweg. It is the main train station in the region, with approximately 40,000 passengers, being the ninth most crowded station in the Netherlands.

In 2006, a project started to rebuild the entire station. A temporary station entrance was opened, which could be reached only by stairs or elevators, in October that year, to keep the station in function. In July 2011, a new tunnel was opened and the former entrance was closed down. The construction has not yet come to an end, but the railway stop is still being used. The plans are to rename the station Arnhem Centraal at the day of the big reopening.
